Ebuddy on the Archos 605 Wifi

Posted by garbrand on August 10th, 2007

We found another device running eBuddy! You can see we’re not saying “everyone everywhere” for nothing. We’re now available on Sony PSP, Nintendo DS, iPhone, on your TV, your Wii, your browser, on your grandma’s browser, on the new mobile phone in your pocket and now we found a movie of eBuddy running on the Archos 605 WiFi. So now we also run on your couch! Seems like a cool gadget.

New Beta Release - Display Picture and Custom Emoticons

Posted by Niels on July 19th, 2007

Thanks for all the feedback we’re getting on the Beta Web version. By popular demand we have moved the display picture feature up the chart and made it part of our new release. Another thing we added in this release is receiving custom emoticons.

We want to keep things nice and clean, so you can change your display picture right where you need it, in the chat tabs. You can simply change it by clicking on the picture.

Custom emoticons

Since we don’t want you to miss out on the fun with your buddies on MSN, we have implemented a feature which allows you to recieve the custom emoticons your friends are sending you from their MSN client.

Other improvements and fixes

Since we’re still in beta, we’re still cracking bugs and improving all around:

  • Improved remembering usernames when adding accounts
  • Offline messages for Yahoo has been improved, they now appear in a new tab per user
  • Improved the disconnection handling
  • We still have lots of good stuff up our sleeves, so watch out for more news. Please keep sending that feedback. Next up: Google Talk and ICQ support.

Kick-start for the eBuddy Mobile Messenger!

Posted by JJK on July 6th, 2007

Alive and kicking for barely a month now, the eBuddy Mobile Messenger has already been downloaded100000.jpg times :-)

We’ve been getting a lot of feedback from all the beta users, who already helped us in tackling some annoying issues. Apart from that, it has also become clear to us that you really like what we have done.

So thanks for all the positive feedback (and ok, let’s be honest, sometimes less positive…but hey, that’s why it’s a beta :-) )!

For those that haven’t tried it yet:

We’re working hard to make it even better!

    eBuddy CEO and COO interviews

Posted by garbrand on June 20th, 2007

The eBuddy Big-Wigs popped up on some websites today! Our CEO, Jan-Joost Rueb, shared his top-5 startup tips on Centernetworks. (And if you can read Dutch, he was also interviewed by Dutch entrepreneurial magazine Sprout.)

Meanwhile, our COO Onno Bakker was interviewed on the Next Web Awards. Take a look if you want to know how he feels about the future of the internet.

It has been a long weekend

Posted by Arjen on June 11th, 2007

As some of you might’ve noticed, we experienced some problems when logging into Yahoo. As far as we can tell it started on Friday and we worked long into the night to get the problems resolved and since then everything seems fine again.

If you experience any problems logging in or find that some functionality is broken, please let us know.

    iPhone on eBuddy

Posted by garbrand on May 26th, 2007

Seems somebody lucky has been trying out the iPhone on eBuddy! This is what our system guru found in the logs:

    Mozilla/5.0
(iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en)
    AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko)
    Version/3.0 Mobile/1A517c Safari/419.3

Looks like the iPhone won’t come with a built-in multinetwork chat client, but we’re pretty sure now the iPhone will work with eBuddy ;-)

    Time to kick back.

Right, after rolling out not one but TWO Beta releases we’ve earned a little break. So sit back, hook up ye’olde iPod and – you know what? Let’s skip the tedious Artist / Album / Playlist selection today and just HIT PLAY.

    Sound of LA

I’m curious, what do you guys get? Leave it in a comment! I’m getting Kutmah - “SOUND OF LA Megamix”.

New eBuddy Web Messenger Beta release

Posted by garbrand on May 18th, 2007

We have just launched a new version of the eBuddy Web Messenger Beta. Thank you for all your feedback, we have put it to good use and made some changes to the design and the code. It is still very much a work-in-progress, so there will be some way to go before we put out the 1.0 release.

    Oberon Beta 2

    Contact Filter

One of the new features we’re delivering is the Contact Filter, which you can see in the screenshot. Just type in a few characters of the name of the contact you want to chat with to find them instantly! No more hunting and searching through your list of contacts to find that one guy (or girl). To see the entire list again, just delete the text in the Filter. It is instant! We are pretty sure you will love this feature.

    Multiple Networks

Did you know you can access multiple chat networks at the same time? Chat with your buddies on MSN, Yahoo! and AIM, all from the same application. Click on the “plus” after your name to add more accounts. You can even have multiple accounts on the same network logged in!

    Spit & Polish

Even though this Beta release is mostly stabilizing and bringing the application in line with the design we’ve made, there is already a little spit and polish going on… Try opening a couple of chat-tabs and rescaling your window for instance. This and some other stuff will be blogged about by the development team in a couple of days.

So, we’re really curious to hear what you think about this beta. If you got a Beta Account, take it for a spin, and leave us a comment!

Greetings from the eBuddy Development Team.

    When you get users involved

Posted by Arjen on May 15th, 2007

The betas have been getting some great reviews and the feedback is coming in. The more interesting part of how the internet currently works is that we start showing up on blogs with our Betas, the ones I like best are the user created blog entries.

One of the most impressive ones so far is by Msncreative (french). He shows his readers what the new web-based beta looks like and explains the different features. Great work!

Quite the norm in our industry is to nick name releases, normally the end-user never sees this, but I didn’t want to leave it from all of you, see if you catch the pattern here; the current web-based beta is called Oberon, the previous Yahoo beta client was Titiana and the AIM beta was called Quince. These are all names from Shakespeare’sA Midsummer Night’s Dream‘.

Any ideas on what we should call our next beta product?

The Web Messenger Beta is now closed.

That’s it! 5000 brave early adopters are now testing our first beta release of the new eBuddy Web Messenger.

Many thanks to all beta testers for all your feedback, constructive criticism and blog posts. We really appreciate it - we cannot fix it if you don’t tell us you don’t like it. Please keep that feedback coming!

If you want to try out our new Beta please be patient – everyone will get a chance to try it out. For this round we have taken the sign-up form offline. If you have signed up already, you will get an invite for the next beta round.

Thanks again, and see you online!
