New Mobile Messenger released

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Hi everyone,

We just released a brand new version of our Mobile Messenger! :-D

The most important new features include:

Most recent chats

The majority of you have buddy lists of over 200 buddies. Try fitting all of them on a mobile phone screen… ;-) We added the new Most Recent Chats feature to make it easier for you to find the buddies you chat with the most. On the top of your buddy list you will see a green group labeled Most recent chats. You will always find the last 5 buddies you chatted with here. It is always up to date, so if you’re looking for that cool, new friend that you just started chatting with a lot, he or she will be at the top of your list.

Most recent chats

Type directly in your chat

We are pleased to announce a much requested feature: Type directly in your chat. Now, you can see in one screen what your buddy is saying and chat directly back. This way you can type so fast, your buddies won’t even notice you are on a mobile phone! You can enable this feature in settings.

Type in chat screen

Improved battery life

Typing directly in your chat screen means that you can chat faster. Now with improved battery life you can also chat longer and longer and longer! We always try to minimize the battery usage for Mobile Messenger. We focused extra attention on this release that so you can now have eBuddy powered on for long time without burning through so much phone battery.

We hope you like the new version! You can get it at http://get.ebuddy.com

We welcome your ideas on what to improve & add next so keep them coming! Reach us at feedback@ebuddy.com.

Happy chatting!
Vincent

The upcoming eBuddy Mobile Messenger

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

As stated in a previous post, there is a new version of eBuddy Mobile Messenger coming up.
We already have a few (say…over 500 :-) ) beta testers that are testing and giving feedback and are quite enthusiastic. I wanted to show you this feedback mail that we got from a happy Beta tester:

Dear Ebuddy,

I’m pretty impressed with the application this time round. Key features i really wanted in this upgrade where, display pics.. and offline mesages also i noticed you can now send offline messages. Overall i think this application has to be givin a 9/10. I’m not sure what you can improve on this product at the moment as this version clearly meets everything that i would want from my messenger. Probably maybe in the future enable custom emotions and the visual of other contacts custom emotions. Just an idea if its possible. I’m currently running k800i SE mobile phone on a steady connection. While i have been online i haven’t experienced any random disconnections. I’m pleased 100% this time round. I understand you might think well where are the negatives…. Erm i haven’t come across any as of yet, but i will keep you posted. Good Job keep up the good work.

Regards,
Mick.

Thanks Mick! :-D Of course, we also receive some issues that need to be solved. And some (though not many) of the old models are not supported anymore (or yet) with this one. Most notably the Motorola V3i, for which we accidentally sent out some invites. Oops.
Overall though, we get very positive feedback.

If you want to try the new version of eBuddy Mobile Messenger in beta, so with some bugs, drop us a mail at feedback@ebuddy.com.

Cheers!

Mobile Beta testers and User Day

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

As you might know, the eBuddy Mobile Messenger works on over 550 types of mobile phones.

And we’re cooking up a new version soon with a totally new look&feel and new features. :-D
Here’s a sneak peak of the start screen…

a sneak preview of the new mobile messenger…

It is quite a task to test the new eBuddy Mobile Messenger on a lot of phones, but unfortunately we can not test it on each single phone out there. That’s why we would like to ask for your help!

If you want to make sure that eBuddy works on your phone and if you want to help us by becoming an official beta tester, please send us an email to feedback@ebuddy.com providing

  • phone model
  • country
  • mobile operator
  • If we think there is a chance that eBuddy Mobile Messenger will work we’ll send you a version which will hopefully lead to us officially supporting your phone.
You will be the first to have the latest version of eBuddy Mobile Messenger on a particular model.

Next to this we are organising a user day at eBuddy HQ!
On April 21, 22 or 23, get a sneak preview of the latest eBuddy Mobile features, try some cool mobile phones and afterwards, relax on the eBuddy boat…
Let us know whether you or your buddies would like to join. Send an email to userday@ebuddy.com and tell us your:

    Mobile World 2008

    Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

    Buenos Dias,

Each year we visit the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It is the biggest mobile congress in the world with over 100,000 visitors in four days. And everything is there: the latest handsets, the coolest content, but also vendors of UMTS antennas and RFID chips (a little less interesting ;-) )

    We had an eBuddy Booth!
So for four days we were telling all mobile operators of the world how important it is to let them open up their mobile portals for us and let you use eBuddy.
It’s a corporate event, so we were in suits and unfortunately we don’t see a lot of you guys. But we did see a lot of people dropping by and showing that they had eBuddy Mobile Messenger on their phone…. and they like it :-D . No surprise with over 1.5 million mobile users last month in each and every country of the world.

    eBuddy Booth

    So…what was new and hot?
First of all: phones, phones and phones. For a good overview of all released phones, have a look at engadget.
As an example: Samsung was big on advertising their new U900 phone, with a virtual navigation keypad. Didn’t like it myself. I need to feel the keys.
Nokia showed a big range of new handsets including the new N96.
Other topics were Android, Location and Mobile Advertisement.

It was a good show and we’ve got a lot more insights on how to make the eBuddy Mobile Messenger and the eBuddy Lite Messenger even better.
He’re’s a short demo of the Mobile Messenger which was filmed at Mobile World. Check out how fast the message is coming in.

    Half a Million Downloads!!

    Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Barely two months after my previous post on reaching 100.000 downloads, the downloads of the eBuddy Mobile Messenger already reached the magic number of 500000
    emoticon.jpg

    Yes, we’re smiling.
We never expected this to happen so soon, but it makes our day/week/month.

Pretty soon we will release a new version with some major improvements….

Thanks everyone for your feedback! Keep on telling us what we can improve!

    Beta testers wanted for Mobile

    Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Already, the eBuddy Mobile Messenger works on over 300 types of mobiles.

Is yours not supported? :( .It is quite a task to test eBuddy Mobile Messenger on every mobile phone, let alone that differences in firmware may already cause difference in behavior on a single type of phone. I haven’t even started talking about different mobile operators with network glitches….

So if you have issues getting online and you want to make sure that eBuddy will work smoothly on your phone, please send us an email to feedback@ebuddy.com and mention your phone model, country, and mobile operator.

We’ll let you know if we think we can make it work and help you get online with eBuddy Mobile Messenger.

And of course… really helpful users will get rewarded with some unique eBuddy gadgets. :)

Hope to hear from you soon,

    JJ

    2nd eBuddy Mobile User Day

    Monday, July 23rd, 2007

The second eBuddy Mobile User Day is a fact. Last week, we welcomed a group of enthusiastic Dutch eBuddy Mobile users to our HQ in Amsterdam.

The reason why we organize our User Days on such a regular basis is because we believe that a product needs to be shaped at your needs and not the other way around…

Our recently released Mobile Messenger and our Mobile Internet version therefore became subject to some very critical testing. I can not give you specific details about the findings, but some interesting improvements and ideas for both versions have risen and can be expected in a matter of time ;-)

    eBuddy user day 1

After an intense afternoon of testing, we took our test-crew for a cruise around the famous Canals of Amsterdam. Luckily, the weather was great for the first time in a while and the American style pizza’s and traditional Dutch Heineken beers were well deserved!

    eBuddy user day 2
The next user day will take place on Thursday the 2nd of August at our HQ so if you are around and would like to join please leave us a note here.

If you want to see all the pictures taken that day, visit our Flickr account here.

    eBuddy User Day

    Thursday, June 14th, 2007

Yesterday we invited a group of eBuddy users to our headquarters in Amsterdam for a User Day. We organize days like these to find out more about what YOU think of our products and what features you find cool to add. The users who were there took our new Mobile Messenger for a spin and gave us some good feedback and new ideas!

    userday1

We ended the afternoon with a boat trip through the Amsterdam canals. With some pizza& drinks on a boat in the sun, quite a nice ending of the day ;-) See all pics here.

    userday2

More User Days will follow, so if you would like to join, please drop us an email on feedback[at]ebuddy.com!

    eBuddy at Next Web conference

    Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

Last Friday, the Next Web conference was held in Tuschinski theatre in Amsterdam.

Inspiring speakers from influential companies all over the world, including Netvibes, Plazes, Yahoo!, Techcrunch, Adobe, Digg (via IM) were present to give their view on, or demo the newest of the newest in Web 2.0.

eBuddy was present too (of course ;-) )! Onno, one of the three founders of eBuddy gave a demo of our new web client (in closed beta) and our new mobile messenger (beta still open to sign up). The presentation went very good, but of course at the time of the demo, there was a Wifi problem….Murphy was present.
Nonetheless, we got a big ‘Wow’ out of the critics in the audience.
