Top 3 requested features

Posted by garbrand on June 19th, 2007

Wow guys, thanks for all the high-quality feedback you have been sending us. We have received an amazing amount of compliments and feedback. What surprised us the most however, is the quality of feedback. The posts have been really articulate and detailed, thanks!

These are the top 3 requested features you send us:

  1. Upload your own avatar
  2. New email notification
  3. Change font and font settings

Even though we already had those features planned, we decided to move them up and do them first. You guys asked for it!

We have some housekeeping to do (mainly stabilizing the foundation of our application, we’ll also blog about that), when that is done we start implementing these features. Keep an eye on this blog!

eBuddy launches Web Messenger Beta

Posted by garbrand on June 14th, 2007

The new eBuddy Web Messenger Beta has arrived.

We are proud to announce the immediate release of the multi-network eBuddy Web Messenger Beta. Instant Messaging just got fun again.

It has been completely rewritten from the ground up. The new client allows you to easily manage all your contacts, whether they are on MSN, AIM, ICQ or Yahoo. Here are some of the new features that come with this client:

1. Multi-Network

The new client allows you to chat to your contacts on MSN, Yahoo! and AIM, all from within the same application. Now you can manage all your contacts from a single, consistent application.

2. Completely Overhauled Interface

The Beta features a brand new design. After taking a long look at what people wanted, we made the interface a much nicer place to be. You will find it much easier to navigate your contacts and your tabs.

3. Developed In-House

Because we have developed this application completely in-house, you can expect more features being added regularly. Already we have some great new stuff cooking in the lab - keep your eyes peeled for new functions! We’ll discuss them here on the blog as well, of course.

4. Live Filter

The Live Filter is one of the improvements we made to work with large contact lists. Just type in a couple of characters from the name of the contact you are looking for and see the list shorten as you type.

5. Web Application

To use the new client, all you need is a modern browser and an internet connection. There is nothing to install, and it will even work behind a firewall.

eBuddy at Next Web conference

Posted by JJK on June 5th, 2007

Last Friday, the Next Web conference was held in Tuschinski theatre in Amsterdam.

Inspiring speakers from influential companies all over the world, including Netvibes, Plazes, Yahoo!, Techcrunch, Adobe, Digg (via IM) were present to give their view on, or demo the newest of the newest in Web 2.0.

eBuddy was present too (of course ;-) )! Onno, one of the three founders of eBuddy gave a demo of our new web client (in closed beta) and our new mobile messenger (beta still open to sign up). The presentation went very good, but of course at the time of the demo, there was a Wifi problem….Murphy was present.
Nonetheless, we got a big ‘Wow’ out of the critics in the audience.

The New Mobile Messenger

Posted by JJK on May 18th, 2007

We’ve started a Beta phase for our new Mobile Messenger :-D !

Next to our Mobile Internet version we have developed a new downloadable application that you can install on your phone.

Why a downloadable application? Our Mobile Internet version is already used by close to 6 million people around the world and growing at a huge pace, so it doesn’t seem that there’s a need for an extra product. Plus on some phones it can be quite a hassle to download and install an app.
The main reason is because a J2ME application has some advantages that the Mobile Internet cannot deliver:

    - Fast response, so you don’t need to press ‘reload’ all the time.
    - Low data traffic
    - Sound notification of a new message and vibration when you receive a buzz
    - Much better user interface

Starting point was to develop a plain and simple multi-net application that you can use intuitively for the main thing that you want such an application for: Chat with your buddies.

We decided not to build the Swiss-army knife that does 50 things that sound good, but you will never use. We like to k.i.s.s.
This doesn’t mean that we will not add features ;-) .
Sure, there’s stuff missing, but we want you to tell us so we can make what you want.

eBuddy launches Blog!

Posted by Arjen on March 6th, 2007

Today is an exciting day. We are officially launching our own Blog!

eBuddy has been around for several years. Back in 2003, we started out as a three man company in a dusty attic. Now, we have grown into an international instant messaging company, connecting millions of people around the world – each and every day. Nowadays we’re based in a lovely office on the canals of Amsterdam. My, how we have grown!

During these years we never fully shared our activities with you. As of today this will be different. To keep you all updated, we created our own blog. On this blog we’ll talk about our products, our team and our passions. But more importantly, you’ll be able to talk to us. Get involved by providing us with your valuable feedback and help us to keep improving. Leave your comments to share your ideas and opinions. Use the comment button; that’s what it’s for!

To everybody who stood by us in the past: a massive ‘thank you’ for your support and commitment! eBuddy could not have been this successful without you.

Stay tuned & take care,

The eBuddy team
