Bug in eBuddy for iPhone 3.1.0

Posted by nadine on August 19th, 2009

Update 20 August: eBuddy for iPhone 3.1.1 is now available in the App Store. This new version fixes the issue with Group Sorting.

Hi,

We found a major bug in eBuddy for iPhone 3.1.0 (the update that we released yesterday).

* What happens?

Everything works fine except …. when you enable Sort buddy list by Groups, the app crashes at startup :-(

* How can you fix this?

Just delete the eBuddy app and re-install it:

1. Tap and hold the eBuddy icon on the Home screen until an “X” appears on the upper-left corner

2. Tap the “X” and tap “Delete” to confirm you want to delete the eBuddy app

3.  Tap the Home button

4.  Go to the App Store to find eBuddy and re-install it.

If you have still have problems using eBuddy, please send an email to feedback_iphone@ebuddy.com and we’ll try to solve it for you.

Note: Do not enable “Sort buddy list by Groups” in Settings.

We are working on an update to get group sorting working again and we’ll submit it to the App Store ASAP. We’ll keep you posted on when the new update will be available.

We apologize for this and thank you for your patience!

After updating to the new version the group chat icon is no longer visible? Do you need another bug fix to fix a fix?

I also noticed that there’s no more group chat button.

Also it doesn’t save the chats upon exit anymore.

  5. Heronymo Says: August 20th, 2009 at 11:15 pm

Actually it looks like it somehow reverted to an old version.

Check out the user name and personal message window. It’s the old version without the big display picture.

You’ve made some good arguments regarding the usage of ebuddy on i-phone, but I’m sure there are people who will disagree with some points.

I am having problems with the Push!
I have an iphone 3GS. I receive vibrating notifications fine, BUT I am unable to receive any SOUND notifications. The sound in my phone settings as well as the e-buddy app are both on and my java is enabled. Please help! It’s driving me crazy!

    Thank you!

  26. Ivar Says: September 28th, 2009 at 9:54 am

@Abigail We do send all push notifications with sound, so we’re not really sure what the problem could be. Do you have your vibration switch turned on? If not, maybe somehow the notification sound included with the app is broken/missing. Could you try to remove and install the app again?

Is there ever going to be an option to sign on as invisible or appear offline?
I have that as default on my PC and I’ve heard that the ebuddy website does have that option. I mean MSN mainly

  28. Ivar Says: September 30th, 2009 at 5:29 pm

@Lexy You can already set your status to ‘appear offline’ in the My Info screen. Thanks for your suggestion about being able to do this at sign in, we are taking it into consideration.

Push notifications are broken. I’m using another account on my Mac to send myself a message on Yahoo, signed in on my iPhone with Push Notifications enabled and an hour timeout, but eBuddy isn’t doing a thing. I open eBuddy, and magically it figures out I have a message.

    Ditto MSN.

Also, AOL gets upset if you log in from more than one location, and sends you a message to all your logins, letting you know. Doesn’t happen with eBuddy. Obviously, when I close the iPhone app, I’m logged out, otherwise I would get a message about multiple logins, and I don’t.

    So, yeah, Push: fully broken.

  34. Ivar Says: November 11th, 2009 at 11:33 am

@tgb Could you send an e-mail with a description of these issue and your account details to feedback_iphone@ebuddy.com so we can take a look at it? Thanks.
