Hello! Welcome to the eBuddy blog. Here we talk about our passion, the team and our products.

eBuddy for Android

Posted by Ivar on May 14th, 2009

We’re really excited to announce the latest addition to the eBuddy family: eBuddy for Android!

eBuddy for Android on T-Mobile G1 and HTC MagicAndroid is software for mobile devices, initially developed by Google. Android-powered phones, such as the T-Mobile G1 or HTC Magic, provide easy access to Google applications including Maps, Gmail, YouTube, and Calendar, plus real Web browsing capabilities. Android-powered phones also provide one touch access to Android Market, the place to discover and download a variety of fun applications.

And now, if you’re the proud owner of an Android-powered phone, you can find eBuddy for Android in the Android Market too. The familiar eBuddy quality and features you know, now also available on Android. :-)

Here are some unique features of eBuddy for Android:

  • - eBuddy ID – one login for MSN, Yahoo!, AIM, Facebook, Google Talk, and ICQ
  • - Free, fast, reliable IM experience
  • - Stay online when you get a call
  • - New message alerts in the Android status bar
  • - Switch easily between chats
  • - Support for emoticons, sound, vibration, and buzzers
  • - Automatic reconnect
  • - Receive offline messages

Curious to see what it looks like? Take a look at these screenshots:

That’s awesome! Does Android support multi-threaded applications so that if eBuddy is minimized/closed/hidden (whatever the right word), that it still stays connected to the network? Or is it more like on iPhone where if you close an app, it is closed. No ability to receive messages.

  2. Ivar Says: May 14th, 2009 at 1:31 pm

@Chris Yes, Android can run multiple apps in the background, as opposed to the iPhone. So when you get a call for instance, you stay online in the background, and new message alerts appear in the Android status bar.

I accessed the android market on my phone but i just cannot find it~! help!

This looks great! We are in desperate need for an IM app on the Android that can maintain connectivity all day and also not suck the battery dry. I hope eBuddy is up to the challenge! I just installed and will be testing it out today.

One thing I notice already, when you are connected and then go back to the home screen, can we get a persistant icon in the notification bar so we know that eBuddy is still connected?

  5. Ivar Says: May 14th, 2009 at 3:02 pm

@Yuxiang It could be that it eBuddy is not yet available in your country, but it should be somewhere today. Could you try again later?

This looks great, but I’m in the Netherlands and it does not appear to be available :(

Is it correct you are waiting to launch eBuddy for iPhone until OS 3.0 is launched becasue of the Push Notifications?

  8. Trevor Says: May 14th, 2009 at 10:37 pm

I’m excited to give this a try. Not seeing this on the market, however. Based in the US.

    Wonderful App!

  11. Foxx Says: May 15th, 2009 at 11:18 am

Its good, but needs some work.

    - Icon in notification bar.
    - Turn off the bubbles option. (They take up too much space and are generally annoying to some people.)
    - Stop it notifying of a message when your in the chat window with the contact the message is off.
    - Avatar support.
    - Speed up connectivity / updating. (It takes about 10 seconds to update the personal message on 3G and a while to connect to the networks. )

@Desmond: It could be that the application has not been made available by Google in Hong Kong yet, or that you have an Android dev phone, which doesn’t support our application.
