Hello! Welcome to the eBuddy blog. Here we talk about our passion, the team and our products.

New eBuddy Messenger updated

Posted by Vincent G. on October 27th, 2009

robot.pngWe have just updated the Beta version of our New Web Messenger to the latest version. Thanks to the great feedback we received from our early users of this version, we’ve done some nice improvements.

Besides many minor updates, these are the major changes:

-    We now support all emoticons for all networks
-    More themes have been added by popular demand
-    Drag and drop contacts into groups (for specific networks only)

Try this new eBuddy Messenger at http://www.ebuddy.com/newmessenger. Use the link below the Messenger to send us feedback or feature requests!

Happy chatting,
Vincent.

PS. Remember this is still work in progress, so you might find things that do not work for you. That’s why your feedback is important to us! For more info, see my previous blogpost.

I’d rather don’t use eBuddy instead of installing Firefox. -.-

[as a Linux user I don’t wanna to use IE also]

The Itouch Ebuddy app is acting up today- anybody else having trouble with it? I’m losing connection, getting told that I can’t log in, when I do log in and when I exit the app and try to reenter, it comes up blank (telling me I have no account configured) but I’m still getting push messages… all in all, highly irritating!

    Bye xxx

  19. Steve Says: November 1st, 2009 at 3:48 pm

I agree, I have not gotten anything from ebuddy yet. Has this happened to anyone else? This is quite annoying.

  20. Ruan Says: November 1st, 2009 at 7:40 pm

I really appreciate if the final version works with Opera browser, is this planed by you?

  21. Jim Smothers Says: November 2nd, 2009 at 3:46 am

This service “slurps” passwords for thousands, if not millions of people. In addition, NO secure connections are supported!

How can you have a secure site without providing any encryption *whatsoever*? Zero HTTPS support.

Ebuddy gets your password, and without SSL, lots of other people will too!

  22. Steve Says: November 2nd, 2009 at 4:47 pm

Is there any other way to get in touch with support other than give them feedback saying that there is a problem?

    and the https connections?

  32. Vincent G. Says: November 9th, 2009 at 12:04 pm

Although we are not using https (visible in the address bar) yet, we do encrypt all passwords send to eBuddy using secure algorithms. This means no one can easily intercept your information.

visual notification for symbian OS (nokia), cant believe its been missing.. is it symbian limitation ? but how come alternative sms apps i downloaded do have visual notification?

send a message to more than 1 buddy at once like sms… not conferencing because you need to wait for people to join before responding, and anyway you dont expect to have a conversation with them.. manytime for example you just want to remind people like “see you @ lunch”…

    @kyle:
This has nothing to do with Google my friend, so calm down. Google is not responsible for us using third party software for chatting.

I have only been using eBuddy for a few days, and have the same issue. Even though I’m logged out on my Android phone, my other account still shows my eBuddy Gtalk account as online.

This is poor programming on eBuddy’s part. Has anyone received a solution?

    -Rusty

I did get an email from someone but no follow up. Almost 1 day and the stupid junk is still showing me logged on.

  65. Jitendra Says: January 17th, 2010 at 6:58 am

    Hi,
I am having the same logoff issue as the users are facing since Oct 2009. MY gmail account stays logged in all the time , hence everyone thinks i am there they send me messages.

Second problem is the timestamp of offline message is wrong, it only shows the time as the current time not the original message it was sent.

I have really liked ebuddy so far, but if the logoff issue doesnt get resolved, I might have to look for alternatives.

    Please release a update ASAP.

    My ebuddy id is “jitendra_ind”

  66. Rusty Says: January 17th, 2010 at 7:42 am

  67. Rusty Says: January 17th, 2010 at 7:59 am

I don’t know if multiple emails did it, but i’m FINALLY LOGGED OFF !!! Btw, I also changed my password for my gmail account so not sure which helped. In any case, I’m never going near eBuddy again.

  95. Colin Says: June 23rd, 2010 at 1:19 am

I’m still waiting to see a Firefox add-on.

It would be nice if it could:

    - Automatic log in.
    - Display a message when someone logs in.
    - Display a message when someone ‘chatted with you’
-Clicking on the messages would open a chat window.
    - Have an icon, when clicked popup of people online, conversations etc.

I recommend this request because it will make ‘life’ easier. Taking away the hassle of going to ebuddy then log in etc. Additionally, there would be no more need to leave a “web browser window” open. Saving precious screen real-estate, whether it was in the form of tabs or not.

ebuddy is awesome, and i use it occasionally. However, if it was just the little bit more ‘easier to use’ I would use it all the time.

I have the same annoying problem, I am logged off on my mobile application but still appearing online on my messenger with the status “on eBuddy mobile messenger……”

At last, i found the solution….!!!!

(on MAC) When you sign in to msn messenger, right click on the messenger icon in dock and select “sign out of all services” thats it!

on your mobile app, make sure that the “login automatically” option is “off” to prevent similar problems.

On windows it should be the same procedure.

Please REMOVE MY EBUDDY ACCOUNT IMMEDIATELY!!!!. I think it is aweful programming to make a site where it is NOT PLAIN and SIMPLE to delete an account. “How to delete my e-buddy account” is all over posts. Microsoft gets another vote of distrust for this.

Basically, eBuddy, Fring, etc. all use a method called Push to deliver IM notifications when you are signed out of the app. This is because of Apple’s restrictions in not letting apps run in the background. When you download these apps, this is usually enabled by default. Basically, they are providing you a premium service by allowing you to stay online even when you are not, by utilizing their server resources. So, even if you delete the app, they have no way to know this, and keep you logged on their server.

Do disable this, you have to go to one of two places: the MAIN Settings app on the iPhone and select your App or your Apps’ setting (within the App), and then go down to the area where Network and Push are mentioned and change your session timeout to be logout on exit. These settings will also usually include the option to change the message, ie. on Ebuddy for iPhone and iPod Touch” to anything you like.

Hi, I’ve been having problem how to type on my SE Vivaz phone, it has Symbian OS. It doesn’t allow to put in any letter that’s why I couldn’t even sign in. I can’t see how or where I should press on to be able to type letters/words. Doesn’t have even qwerty support or the like. Please help! Cheers!
