Hello! Welcome to the eBuddy blog. Here we talk about our passion, the team and our products.

New version of eBuddy for iPhone & iPod Touch

Posted by Ivar on November 4th, 2009

Update: If you experience any crashes at startup, please disable automatic login at startup. This is only temporary; an updated version with a fix for this issue will be released as soon as possible.

Hi iPhone & iPod Touch users,

Drum roll, please! Just for you: a big new update of eBuddy for your iPhone & iPod Touch, available in the App Store now! :-) We hope you’ll enjoy all of the improvements:

Push notification version 3.2.1

  • - Faster & secure login: Logging in is now a lot faster - depending on the quality of your connection, of course! We’ve also improved security.
  • -Push notifications up to 1 hour: You can choose to stay logged in and receive push notifications for incoming message up to 1 full hour!
  • - Saved chats and messages: Your chats stay open until you close them, including all your messages. Never lose any conversations!
  • - Clickable links in chats: When someone sends you a link, just tap on it to go directly to that link without exiting eBuddy.
  • - MySpace IM added: You can now chat with your MySpace buddies as well. Just add MySpace to your chat account and you’re good to go.
  • - Start a group chat: Invite multiple buddies to have a group chat with you directly from the chat screen.
  • - Clickable pictures sent by other eBuddy users: You can now view pictures sent to you by fellow eBuddy users directly in your chat.
  • - Many other improvements and bug fixes.

We‘ve also been listening closely to all your feedback, so don’t worry: a new update is coming soon, which we think will more than live up to your expectations! Here’s one hint: eBuddy will “go wide” ;-) .

And for those of you who don’t have our iPhone app yet, eBuddy is available now as a free download in the iTunes App Store.

Happy Messaging!
Ivar

This version has as many bugs as the previous!

  2. Ivar Says: November 4th, 2009 at 6:09 pm

@fevre53 Could you send an e-mail to feedback_iphone@ebuddy.com with your bug reports, so we can take a look at it? Thanks!

Ivar, is there someone I can contact to have my issue fixed? When I am logged off, it still says I am online and “On www.ebuddy.com” as my status. this has been going on for almost 2 weeks.

  4. Ivar Says: November 4th, 2009 at 8:47 pm

@Steve If this is on your iPhone/iPod Touch it’s expected: you can choose (from Settings) to stay online for up to 1 hour and receive push notifications. If you have an issue with any of the other apps, please send an e-mail to feedback_iphone@ebuddy.com and we will look into it. Thanks.

Tnx in advance and keep up the good work !!

Ivar, this is not for the iphone. It’s using the web-client. It stays online forever, not just for 1 hour.

Am on an iPod touch (1st gen) and I don’t know why it’d crash every time I start it up. It wasn’t like this before I updated. It happened after I updated - ebuddy for iPhone just wouldn’t start up. Is this a bug?

*I had sorting on ‘By Name’ previously.

Any plans to release a windows mobile version? It’d be nice not to have to go through Java to access your software. Or at the least, make one thats compatible with 480×800 screens on WinMo.

  27. Heronymo Says: November 14th, 2009 at 12:57 am

For those experiencing a crash on launch, try what I did. Seems to fix the issue.

Delete the app. Reinstall. And do NOT check Login Automatically under your EBuddy login. You can leave the other accounts, such as MSN to login automatically.

So far I’ve had no more crash on launch.

The only minor thing is that you need to press the login button when you launch. Otherwise it works perfectly!

  28. heronymo Says: November 14th, 2009 at 2:03 am

And just in case someone is wondering, or my post is somehow confusing, disabling the Login Automatically under the Ebuddy login doesn’t make you log out when you close the app.

So you still appear as online to your friends.

And you’ll still have Push Notifications for your specified amount of time.

It just means that the program won’t automatically reconnect to the server on relaunch, provided you’ve already logged in in the first place, of course.

So you’ll still receive push notifications, and when you open the app and login again, you’ll get all your message as normal.

  33. ebudsucks Says: November 18th, 2009 at 2:50 pm

Cannot change the nick. Each time eBuddy loads, it copies the nick from one of the im accs. Which one? God knows! Depends on which im acc finishes loading last? Total trash. Why can’t eBuddy main seperate nicks for separate IMs like Digsby does?

  34. AlfredB Says: November 20th, 2009 at 5:01 am

    Hi,
can the ebuddy group the msg together if it’s at same time? And i feel that the time displayed and nick name are taking up a lot of spaces. Hope there are some improvement soon.
And I love the interface eBuddy for android, it’s much more nicer than eBuddy for iPhone.
    Thanks.
