Hello! Welcome to the eBuddy blog. Here we talk about our passion, the team and our products.

iPhone support!

Posted by Arjen on July 13th, 2007

UPDATE:

We replaced this iPhone version with the eBuddy Lite Messenger (http://m.ebuddy.com) . This runs faster and has all basic chat features. It also lets you sign in all your accounts at once.

It might look less flashy than previous iPhone version, but bearing in mind the sometimes very slow mobile internet connections, you get a faster client and more features this way.

We will add new features on a regular basis and also plan to make more iPhone specific adaptations.

Please stay tuned and check our blog for updates. Some exiting iPhone news coming up soon!

We pride ourselves with our work on the multi network version of our application as well as our availability on 300+ mobile phone types. With the release of the iPhone we of course feel that it can not be left behind.Europe, The Netherlands in particular, still has no concrete dates as to when the iPhone is going to be released, so we had to resort to eBay and earlier this week we finally received our very own iPhone. After some creative engineering to get the unit working (no AT&T in europe :-) ) our AJAX guys took it.

After a lot of playing with it work we are happy to announce the availability of one of the most advanced web-based multi network chat clients for the iPhone. Just point your iPhone to eBuddy (http://www.ebuddy.com) and you will be sent to a special landing page from where you can enter our application in iPhone mode and chat using MSN, AIM or Yahoo.

This version is marked as Alpha quality (or experimental if you will), so if you find any bugs or experience strange behavior, please let us know via feedback@ebuddy.com or press the feedback button in the application itself.

First I have to say, eBuddy is the best IM I saw on iPhone. I’ve already test eBuddy once I got my iPhone, but seems we still have the same problem now.

Since mobile Safari don’t have a scroll bar any more(windowless), so I can’t scroll my contact list as usual we use in IE/FireFox/Safari. We have to flick the entire content up or down to find our content.

Just check the following picture from Apple developer site.

    http://developer.apple.com/iphone/images/noscroll.png

hope to see eBuddy coming to be best web IM in the world.

first i’d like to say how good it is and

i can go on it any time if my namal msn
    dosnt work lol

so just a little thanks to all of you for makeing this a good sight

@gunsmith: luckily, you CAN scroll your contacts list! :) What you have to do is place two fingers on the touchscreen, next to each other, and make your usual scrolling movement. You’ll see the rest of your contacts list appear from the bottom of your screen.

Our next release will have a contacts list that can be scrolled normally (with one finger)…

Thank you so much for your feedback! (I want more…)

    Cheers,

    Mike.

    @Mike,

Thanks, i didn’t know iPhone can use two fingers to scroll in a window.

I have another question. Sometime using eBuddy it will stuck on the “Building conact tree” and never get into it.

    Regards,

    Johnson

Hey eBuddy! I’m absolutely in love with the new iPhone web-interface & AIM service.

I was wondering if there was a way to set a custom away message..? When I click the status changer, it allows me to be “Available” or “Away,” but I also notice if I click the little bubble, I can input text. But even when I do that, it doesn’t make that my status message.

I don’t know if this is a blooper, but custom away messages would be great! >:]

    Thanks!

@gunsmith: you’re welcome ;) The case that you’re stuck looking at the spinner when you login will also be fixed in the next iPhone version.

@Drea: thanks for your compliments! I will try to squeeze custom away messages into the next version :P

I’m also trying to find out what you all like better: a native, iPhone-looks, interface, or the eBuddy style.

    Please let me know!

    Hey,

I prefer the iPhone native style - and using the iUI toolkit from Joe Hewitt it’s easy :) Of course, its less flexible in terms of design, but better suited to finger-use. Also, many people expect it now that many other sites have adopted iUI…

Either way, keep up the good work! It looks really promising so far.

    @Mike, Awesome! I can’t wait, :]!

I also like the eBuddy style, but some iPhone-interfaces look pretty weird. For one, I absolutely dislike the “drop-down” list style contact list. I like being able to view your contact list with away messages, etc. I like the eBuddy style, though. It’s cool with the tabs & all. :D
