Hello! Welcome to the eBuddy blog. Here we talk about our passion, the team and our products.

New Mobile Messenger released

Posted by Vincent on January 22nd, 2009

Hi everyone,

We just released a brand new version of our Mobile Messenger! :-D

The most important new features include:

Most recent chats

The majority of you have buddy lists of over 200 buddies. Try fitting all of them on a mobile phone screen… ;-) We added the new Most Recent Chats feature to make it easier for you to find the buddies you chat with the most. On the top of your buddy list you will see a green group labeled Most recent chats. You will always find the last 5 buddies you chatted with here. It is always up to date, so if you’re looking for that cool, new friend that you just started chatting with a lot, he or she will be at the top of your list.

Most recent chats

Type directly in your chat

We are pleased to announce a much requested feature: Type directly in your chat. Now, you can see in one screen what your buddy is saying and chat directly back. This way you can type so fast, your buddies won’t even notice you are on a mobile phone! You can enable this feature in settings.

Type in chat screen

Improved battery life

Typing directly in your chat screen means that you can chat faster. Now with improved battery life you can also chat longer and longer and longer! We always try to minimize the battery usage for Mobile Messenger. We focused extra attention on this release that so you can now have eBuddy powered on for long time without burning through so much phone battery.

We hope you like the new version! You can get it at http://get.ebuddy.com

We welcome your ideas on what to improve & add next so keep them coming! Reach us at feedback@ebuddy.com.

Happy chatting!
Vincent

i have a nokia 6233 and the feature “Type directly in your chat” doesn’t work. why??

  10. kenjiru Says: January 27th, 2009 at 12:09 pm

The ‘Most recent chats’ is a great feature for the ones that need it. But for the ones that don’t, it takes precious screen real estate. It would be nice to have an option to disable the feature.

Another useful option would be to hide empty groups, when the contacts are grouped by Group.

Thank you for the direct typing feature. It is something we were waiting for.

I upgraded to 1.01 on my Nokia E71. While I love all the new features, I hope eBuddy could fix this problem:

eBuddy is not able to accept numeric after I press the numeric function key. The older 1.00 version had no problem.

Therefore, I had to spell the numbers in my chat. Please release a new version to fix this problem. Thanks! Keep it up!

  12. Yeng Says: January 29th, 2009 at 4:16 pm

Hmm.. i’ll try to download this one using my SE P1i

  13. Veera Says: January 30th, 2009 at 3:19 am

I use a Sony Ericsson P1i. Is this v1.1 version any different from the beta version that has been out (r5301)? I do not see any differences compared to that.

Thanks for a wonderful product, I like the new text entry in the chat window itself, but it wont let me enter numbers.

Can you give some idea of how much improvement I should expect in my battery life with this new version?

Thanks! and Please keep up the good work!

    hi,
first, i love ebuddy for mobile - it’s rock!
second: you guy have to improve:

1- battery problem - battery still run quick :P

2- my w880i running this, then when run with “chat directly in window” mode, the “space” button not working, i have to use “0″ button for space

3-have option for turn of most recent chat

4- in hide offline email have to hide all offline group to :P

5-new option “improve battery” which can make the theme’s effect not show but make battery run more and faster?

    thank for the lovely software

I updated ebuddy on my N82 because of the direct chat and battery saving features. However like what WOFall mentioned, direct type is actually _slower_ because dictionary cannot be enabled.

Haven’t used the new version long enough to test the battery yet though, but from the comments here I am starting to get worried =/

  28. patek Says: February 11th, 2009 at 12:33 pm

    Hi,

I have tried several times to download the ebuddy messenger to my mobile phone - Samsung TouchWiz F480.
I have checked that this phone is compatible for your messenger on your website.

However whenever i try to access http://get.ebuddy.com, it does not connect and I receive a message “Access Denied”
Request you to help me out in this matter. I am really eager to use ebuddy messenger on my phone.

Just to inform you that all other websites work absolutely fine on my phone.

    Regards,
    Vivek Bhandari

got a sony ericsson c902, my question is the notification alert (beep) works when there’s an incoming chat, but it doesn’t automatically open up the chat. the thing is, we don’t always hear the beep (’coz so many reasons crowd, or in meetings so put the phone in silence) so i don’t know if there’s a chat-message whereas like an sms we see a notification even if we missed it. have a couple of IM apps installed that works almost like an SMS. even if i missed a chat message, i’d know because these apps open up the chat, so i use either of these 2 apps most, but i know actually ebuddy is better than these 2 apps becase of photo attachment capability etc….

It works perfectly on my Nokia E63.
I have tried several other IMs, and I would rate eBuddy among the best.

I have select edthe option to hide inactive contacts.
And also selected to display per group.
But on my Yahoo Messenger contact list, it still display the inactive accounts.
Anything that I need to set?
    Or is this a bug?

    Thank you.

Loving the ebuddy mobile messenger, please can u include T9 dictionary in type in chat, select status before signing in, put what the contact’s status alert on the top of the conversation, be able to set a display picture from mobile memory instead of using camera all the time, change the layout of the messenger so the contact display name shows and put in small letters their personal message. Be able to send files to your contacts from mobile phone memory. Put the menu at the bottom of each conversation for instance nudges, send a picture etc as little icons be good for touch screen mobiles. Put the display pictures in the chat so you know who you are talking to.

Great advertising in the chat screen… a major improvement for ebuddy… launch a new version ONLY because of implementing ads!!! And, of cause, they are NOT WORKING… HAHA… how bad is this…

    WARNING:
    DO NOT INSTALL VERSION 1.02!!!!

    Hello I HATE ADS,

I’m sorry to hear that you are disappointed that we’re starting to implement advertisement.

For us it is a way to get revenue so that we can pay the people working here on our service.
I hope you understand that any healthy company needs some kind of revenue to pay the bills. Especially in the current economic crisis.
An alternative would be that we offer a paid version. Would you consider paying a small amount for an ad-free version?

I’m also sorry to see your big warning that people shouldn’t install the latest version.
Please do install the latest version and click on an ad every now and then :-) , so that we continue to grow and keep on offering this service to the millions of people per day, every day.

As for the fact that it doesn’t work correctly: we’re working on that, thanks for the tip.

Cheers from Amsterdam and thanks for your understanding,

    JJ

well the version doesn’t seem all that bad to me.

  119. I HATE ADS aka. Saiien II Says: May 1st, 2009 at 6:00 pm

    Hello JJ,

The problem is that the new version only implement ads for the user… why they should use this version? In 1.01 they get the same program without ads so I recommend to use this version… if you like it or not. I think every user understand this…
Ebuddy is the best messaging program to me, I use it very often with my W960i. Please understand that I don’t wanna see ads in my Buddylist… The screen is too small to use a big part of it only for advertising… implementing the ads in your website would be the better way… thats my opinion.

To be fair i woukd say:
Install 1.02 if you can life with ads in your buddylist, if not use the ‘old’ 1.01. But make sure that you use any of the eBuddy versions! ;)

    Greetings from Germany

I have a Sony Ericsson W910i - eBuddy v1.2 - My display name doesn’t change from my email address… The option is there and it allows me to enter a new display name but I press ok, then press save but it doesn’t change my msn name… The personal message works with no problem, also… Please release a beta version that remembers your display name for the next time you sign-in to eBuddy.

Where’s the chat type column which already there in the previous version ? All I have to do is change the screen and type, and back again to chat screen. Is there somethin on the settings ? Anyone pls help…

On my w350i I installed vodafone messenger and I think its that that is stopping me from viewing ebuddy.com at all.

I downloaded it to my pc and put it on my phone, but it still says connection failed, Internet works fine. Just ebuddy.com doesn’t work. I unsubscribed from vodafone messenger, but it expires saturday. Should I just wait?

Ebuddy is great but it needs more improvements such as

1- sending photos or music on your phone not just (Camera)

2- Moving right and left when typing directly on Chat screen to correct typed text or insert symbols ( ?@; * & …etc )

3- Returning the previous ebuddy font in V 1.2

i wish the staff read this and improve
    THANKS…

Hey everyone - I HAVE THE ANSWER TO THE DATE OF BIRTH PROBLEM.

I downloaded eBuddy (for my Sony Ericsson W995) and then come across the date of birth issue when trying to get Facebook Chat to work on it.

As mentioned by some others above, it specifically tells you how to type it (ie: the American format of month/date/year - 05/08/1984) but it doesn’t work. Nor does it work if you switch it around to the English way.

However, I tried one last thing and now it works perfectly.. I put “May/08/1984″.

TYPE THE MONTH AS A WORD AND YOU SHOULD BE OKAY.

    Hope this helps guys,
    Ryan
